Losing the Baby Weight

When I was pregnant, I was so worried about being able to get my body back and I watched in horror as the pounds piled on.

By the end of my pregnancy I had put on 33lbs which was within the healthy range that is recommended but seemed a lot to me!

Once I gave birth I was desperate to lose the extra pounds and get my body back. Within the first week I lost 20lbs, but then it slowed down to 2lbs the next week, then 1lb. I was stuck at 11lbs above my pre-pregnancy weight for a long time!

It took until 6 months postpartum to get back down to my pre-pregnancy weight and at this point it just started melting away!

Seven 1/2 months postpartum - 5lbs under pre-pregnancy weight.

Top Five Baby Books | Seven Months Old

Trying to read to your active seven month old baby is not the easiest of tasks, especially when they're constantly trying to grab the book and shove it in their mouth!

When James was really little (up to about five months old) I read him lots of different storybooks and I would have his full it's a whole new game!

This is what I've learnt...

First off, they have to be board books! Anything paper will be destroyed!!

Secondly, the stories can't be too long. Unless you have an angel of a baby, they'll probably lose interest pretty quickly.

Lastly...get really animated, make wild gestures and sound out animal/machinery/weather noises. Basically, make yourself look as stupid as possible!

Winter Hair Treatments

Coloured hair needs a lot of love and care, especially when you have bleach put through it. I always have a number of different treatments on the go to bring my blonde hair back to looking salon fresh.

Here's what I'm loving at the moment...

Lighting the Home for Christmas

I couldn't help myself... Once it hit November, the weather got colder and the evenings got darker, I decked our flat out with a lot of mood lighting.

The first set of lights I picked up were from Primark. They're a battery operated string of 20 LED's and I bought them for £1.50. They look lovely twisted round a vase or on a mantelpiece. I actually went back and bought a lot more of these!

What's in my Changing Bag Video

I finally, after a really long time, actually filmed another video! I've said before, I can be a bit (or maybe a massive) perfectionist, so every time I filmed something I never ended up posting it. But I've managed it this time.

The First Month of Weaning

Weaning is really exciting for most parents. Getting to see your babies reaction to foods and introducing them to amazing new flavours. But it can also be quite scary and stressful. If you plan to make your own baby food, you may be asking yourself: how smooth should the purees be? How big should a portion be? How do you introduce finger foods?

This is how our first month has been. The foods I've made, tested James on and what he's loved and hated.

The First Fashion Flat Lay

I had in mind a fashion post for yesterday but taking outfit photos while looking after a baby is pretty darn impossible. When I uploaded the photos to my computer, they were blurry and focused on a hairbrush!! I was not impressed, let me tell you! There was a lot of f'ing and blinding!

Today I decided to try a flat lay....

I have to admit, I am a little obsessed with flat lays. I don't know why, but I love looking through them on Pinterest and getting inspiration for outfits. To be honest, it's not just outfits, I just like a pretty flat lay.

The Best Baby Toys | Seven Months Old

I don't know what I would do without toys...oh how I do love them! Anything to help keep James amused and away from wires/TV's/gadgets (basically anything he isn't allowed) is fantastic in my books.

Usborne Noisy Numbers - James adores this book because it makes sounds as well as having brightly coloured pictures to look at. He especially loves the sound for the cats meowing, and smiles while shaking his head from side to side - too bloody cute for words. I can read this book to him over and over!

Touch & Feel Buggy Buddies - This book doesn't get read much, but instead is constantly being chewed. I don't know what it is about it, but it will keep him entertained for twenty minutes or more sometimes!

Stacking Cups - These are a lot of fun for adult and baby. I stack them up, he knocks them down...repeat 20 times :) He also likes bashing them together and throwing them off his high chair.

Fisher Price Roller Blocks -  These come in a set of 4 (one of ours is probably under a chair) and have a little ball in the middle of the block that can be rolled. Again, these can be built up into a tower which James loves! I like to make lots of towers for him to crawl at and knock down. Our dog enjoys this too, although he's always running off with them.

Hope you're all having a lovely evening
I'm off to edit a video which will hopefully be up on my channel soon!

Hair Care Update: Shampoo and Conditioner

This would be a massive post if I included every single hair product I use, so I've separated it into categories, starting with shampoo and conditioner.

I change up the products I use on a week to week basis as if I use something consistently for too long my hair can look a bit dull, so I do have quite a big stash.

A Little Homeware Haul

As the nights have been drawing in fast, I've been obsessed with making our home all cozy with fairy lights and candles.

Changing Body in Pregnancy

I wrote this post at 37 weeks pregnant, but am only posting it now and James is seven months old (oops!).

Weight gain
This was my first worry. It may seem shallow, but I was really concerned about my body changing in a way I couldn't control and not being able to get it back after the nine months. At first, I did seem to gain weight quite fast (according to pregnancy guidelines), particularly when I felt quite sick in the first trimester. Carbohydrates were the only thing I could stomach! But, as the weeks have gone on it has steadied out and doesn't show on my body like it did at first. It's recommended that you gain between 25-35lbs if you're of an average weight but the majority of that weight is extra blood and fluids, the baby's weight, the placenta, amniotic fluid, uterus and breast tissue.

As it's now coming to the end of my pregnancy I can honestly say the weight gain doesn't really bother me. I have tried to be quite healthy when I haven't felt sick and have included a lot of salads and vegetables into my daily diet, but I have also allowed myself treats and will never let myself go hungry for long. I've been moderately active throughout and that definitely helps. I walk the dog on a daily basis for 30 minutes to an hour and try to always keep busy doing chores.

**By the end of my pregnancy (just shy of 40 weeks) I think I was 33lbs and I had puffed out quite a bit**

Some Days Are Tough

Being ill is crap, but having to see your baby feel ill is bloody awful!

It's been a week full of snot, crying & sick.. So Pj's it is! And I thought why not show you what we wore. Who says outfit posts have to be fancy?

James is wearing a lovely little owl print romper from Gap (last year). This was actually the first time he wore it - what was I thinking? Sick baby in a new outfit....are you crazy!? But he looked so cute, especially with the little navy socks that he would not keep on!! The owls have little mustard wings and they matched so well with the socks (I know, I'm ridiculous).

The Ikea Toy Haul

Last Sunday we got ourselves up and out nice and early so we could be at Ikea the minute it opened. The main reason for going was fairy lights, storage boxes and photo frames, but we ended up coming away with so many goodies for James, a teddy for Milo and a new duvet for us (to be fair our old one wasn't breathable at all - way too hot).

James slept the entire time :)

Peanut Butter and Jam Cupcakes

I am obsessed with peanut butter, so of course Peanut Butter Cupcakes is my ultimate dream. Cake and peanut butter mixed together? Yum!

I found this recipe on Good Food Channel a couple of years ago when doing a bit of birthday baking for a friend.

Breastfeeding Is Hard but So Amazing..

I wanted to write about how I've found breastfeeding because I had a completely different idea of how it was going to be.

Before having James I went to a couple of classes and read up about breastfeeding to prepare myself but I don't feel anything prepared me for how it actually was in the first few weeks.

I think the classes I went to didn't talk too much about the drawbacks of breastfeeding because they're worried it will put people off, but by not being told all the facts, I spent the first few weeks upset, overwhelmed and found it difficult to bond with my son!

October Baby Favourites

Sainsburys Ice Cube Tray
These are the perfect size for making up James' purees and they have a rubber bottom to make it easier when popping out the frozen cubes! I like to make up smaller portions so I can mix cubes together and make up different meals for James.

Two piece Pyjamas
James kicks a lot, so sleepsuits with poppers are now really hard work. Pyjamas with a short sleeve bodysuit underneath are far easier for bedtime.

Annabel Karmel book
I flick through this book all the time for meal ideas and weaning advice. It's fantastic for when you first start your baby on solids as it explains how long to cook each vegetable/fruit for and how to prepare purees.

I started using this on a rash James has had since he was born and it's now completely dissapeared. No other cream has worked, in fact some made it more angry looking!

Johnsons Talc Powder
I use this on James' bum every night before putting his nappy on. It helps to protect against moisture making him sore, as sometimes he goes through the night with no change.

I hope you've had a great weekend

What I Ate...Breakfast on a Saturday

Babies rarely let you sleep in... So it's up at 6am for us most Saturdays (7 if James is feeling generous).

I usually pop James in his highchair after he's had his morning milk and give him some toast fingers to eat/play with. The majority of these end up on the floor for Milo.

I then sit down and have my (much needed) latte while our breakfast is cooking. We usually have two boiled eggs with rice cakes - sounds boring, but it's so nice with a bit of ketchup or some ham. I find it's much less bloating than bread and far less calories.

Then James has his puree... this time it was mashed apple and mango from Organix. I usually give him homemade food but I want to start introducing more lumps so bought a couple of these cartons to see how he takes to it. He liked it the second time I gave it to him when it was straight out the fridge - I think he loves cold food!

We then treated ourselves to croissants with jam as the weekends are meant for treats! These All Butter Croissants from Tesco are delicious.

What do your Saturday breakfasts look like?

My Breastfeeding Must-Haves!

Lansinoh Lanolin Cream
Use this as soon as you give birth. I didn't use it for a couple of days when my nipples were already sore, but I think had I used it earlier it may have stopped some of the irritation.

3-4 Nursing Bras
They constantly need washing so it's good to have a few. I like Emma Jane and Carriwell. I also have the sports bra from Boob which (although expensive) is brilliant!

Nursing Sleep Bras
If I don't wear a sleep bra, I wake up drenched in milk. Not pleasant! -- This was at the beginning, but once my milk had regulated at 3-4 months this stopped.

Snood Scarf or Dark Shawl
These are great for feeding in public. My snood is a thin cotton one from Primark. Of course if it's winter as long as you have a coat or jumper you can throw over yourself, you can be pretty discrete. I found that summer is harder in terms of breastfeeding!

Muslin Cloths
I often pop one of these just below my boob to stop milk leaking while feeding (especially in the early days - not so necessary when milk has regulated). Breastfeeding can be quite messy and if you're in public or just don't want to constantly be changing your top, this can help - unless your baby decides to spit out all the milk he just drank on you :)

Medela Swing Maxi Double Electric Breastpump
This is the only pump I've used so I don't have anything to compare it to but it works really well for me. It's quick, easy to use and I can usually get a good amount of milk, especially if I pump in the morning. I would really suggest getting a pump if you want a little time away from your baby...This was invaluable for me in the early days and also meant I could have a cheeky glass of wine too :)

Cereal bars or quick to grab snacks
If your baby needs feeding and you think may be sat down for ages, cereal bars are wonderful. I've personally become obsessed with flapjacks. James always seems to cry for food right when I'm starting to get hungry - typical!

Bottles of water
Obviously you need to drink lots of water when you're breastfeeding so it's good to have bottles ready in your fridge that you can quickly grab.

I was recommended to take vitamins the whole time I'm breastfeeding.

I don't recommend bothering with special breastfeeding tops except maybe a couple of clip down camisoles to wear at home. H&M do a pack of two for £14.99. But these aren't really that necessary.

I hope this was helpful to any new mummies or pregnant ladies

Before I Met You

This is a post that is probably about eight months overdue... I thought about scrapping it, but maybe there are some pregnant mamas out there who want a bit of inspiration.

First up, the jacket! Military inspired with faux leather collar and gold buttons. It's from River Island, but I actually picked it up in a charity shop in perfect condition for under £10 - bargain!!

The jumper is from the Topshop maternity line. I would highly recommend them if you're pregnant, I bought most of my maternity clothes from there and will keep them for any future pregnancies :) I found the quality and fit are much better than other brands!

Finally the leggings, which are from Asos. I don't think you can get these anymore which is unfortunate because they were amazing!! I highly suggest leggings for when pregnant, but if you can find thicker materials that are more like spandex they are far more wearable.

I think the nail polish I'm wearing is OPI The Thrill of Brazil - oh how I miss wearing nail polish. I know it would end up getting cracked and I wouldn't have time to re-apply so it would just look awful!

Thanks for reading

Delicious Treats in 15 Minutes

When given the option of having a bowl of Cornflakes or a bowl of Crunchy Nut, I always go for the latter. So, unfortunately, Cornflakes tend to go stale in our household.

Rather than throw them out, I thought I'd recreate them into something far more mouth-watering. Because, who doesn't love Chocolate Cornflake Cakes.

To make these I melted 65g butter, 130g chocolate (broken up into chunks) and 4 tbsp of golden syrup. Once that was melted I set it aside to cool and then mixed it together with the 130g of Cornflakes I had left in the packet. I then popped 12 cupcake cases into a 12 hole muffin tin, spooned the mixture in and then placed in the fridge to set.

Voila! Yummy treats in 15 minutes!

And this recipe is the most delicious one I've used so far, I think because it contains a bit more golden syrup than usual.

The Autumn Face

It's all about airbrushed skin, flushed cheeks and berry toned lips when Autumn rolls around. And there are three products that I am currently loving to achieve this look.

First up is Nars Orgasm blush - a classic, beautiful peachy pink shade with a golden shimmer. I love this for Autumn as it has slightly red undertones and on my fair skin it gives a gorgeous flush.

The second product is Nars Sheer Glow in Ceylan - a medium toned shade with yellow undertones. This works perfectly to neutralise any redness on my face and blur out imperfections, it also lasts all day without needing touch ups. I've spoken about this foundation a lot on my blog, but it is so worth the money!

The last product is Revlon Colorburst lipstick in Plum - a deep berry shade that sits comfortably on the lips. This line of lipstick is not available anymore but they do so many shades in their Super Lustrous line and I always find the quality of Revlon lipsticks to be fantastic.

Not the best picture (hence the blurred background)...but here they are applied. I feel so Autumnal when wearing them and that makes me (as sad as it may sound) extremely happy!

Healthy Banana Oat Bites

Since starting to wean James I've wanted to give him the healthiest options I can and over the next few months I'd like to try and get him accustomed to healthy snacks rather than anything loaded with sugar. So I've been cooking up different snacks in a bid to find treats he likes.

These Banana Oat Bites contain just four ingredients and taste pretty good!

Ingredients -

150g Oats
150ml of Milk
2 Mashed Bananas
A handful of chopped raisins

Method -

Pre-heat oven to 150 degrees C...130 for fan ovens.

Mix all the ingredients together in a bowl then pop in a baking dish lined with greaseproof paper/baking parchment (I forgot to do this so it was a pain getting them out) and bake for 35-45 minutes depending on how you'd like the consistency.

Remove from the oven and leave to cool then cut into little bites.

These are perfect for babies as they are fairly soft and you can cut them to your preferred size. As James is only six months I've cut mine into long chip shapes so he can hold them easily.

Let me know if you have any recipes that are great for babies or children. I'd love to try them!

October Favourites

It's the end of it's Favourites time!

Chanel Coco Mademoiselle - With top notes of Orange, Bergamot and Grapefruit, this is quite a citrusy perfume. It's also delicately feminine with it's floral heart notes, and yet sexy because of it's musky base notes.

Soap & Glory The Righteous Butter Body Lotion - I love to layer this with Chanel's Coco Mademoiselle as the scents are so similar. It's one of the nicest smelling lotions I've ever sniffed and lasts absolutely ages!

Nars Sheer Glow - I've gone back to Sheer Glow as it is my all time favourite foundation. While I love the high-street options I've been using the past year, nothing can really compare to Nars and I think many people seem to be of the same opinion. I applied it one day last month to use up a bottle I had lying in my drawer and since then I've been scrapping out the last of it until I finally caved and bought another.

Revlon Colourburst in Plum - As everyone else seems to be doing, I've pulled out my dark lipsticks for autumn and I am loving them this year! I'm not sure you're able to get this particular lipstick anymore, but the colour is available from most brands on the high street. I have my eye on Charlotte Tilbury Glastonberry though, which is eye-wateringly expensive.

MAC Faux - A beautiful mauve-pink satin shade that is deep and sexy for autumn, but not too heavy, so perfect for everyday wear.

So that's it for October..what have you been loving?
