August Baby Favourites

I've been looking at my beauty products and wondering to myself what have been my favourites for the month of August, but I don't feel as if anything has changed much and I'm always using the same things.

So instead, I thought I would show you some of James and my favourite baby items.

Sophie the Giraffe
If I give this to James he can play and chew on it for up to almost an hour - he just loves it! It may be a bit pricey at £12.99, but I think it's definitely been money well spent. Our Cockapoo Milo really wants to play with it though...in fact most of James' toys, Milo wants!

Tesco Ultra Soft Wipes
We were using WaterWipes at first as they were supposed to be really gentle on a newborn babies skin, but since James is now nearly five months I have been trying other brands and these Tesco wipes are really great value for money and haven't irritated his skin at all. We also tried the Tesco fragrance free wipes, but I found them to be a weird material that didn't wipe easily.

Nelsons Teetha Teething Granules
James has definitely had some sort of teething pain for the past few months but no teeth as of yet. I think it's the teeth moving around under the gums causing him some discomfort, and these teething granules seem to work quite well at the moment when he's angrily shoving his hands in his mouth.

Fisher Price Jumperoo
This is THE best toy we have bought, by far!! At first he seemed a bit unsure, but I think he was just amazed at all the lights, sounds and objects he could explore. He wants to be sat up rather than lay down now, so his playmat will only entertain him for a short while before he shouts at me to get him up. Whereas with the Jumperoo I am always getting him out way before he appears to be bored of it. I managed to buy it for £74.99 from Amazon which is considerably cheaper than most places I've seen it, so do look around for bargains.

Four Month Baby & Postpartum Update

I've been a bad blogger...but I don't feel like that's too surprising for me. It's too easy to get out of the swing of blogging and suddenly weeks or even months have passed by. But I'm determined to write about James at four months old. I would have liked to have done a 3 month update, but our laptop was completely messed up for about a month (I know, excuses, excuses).

Weight: He was about 13.5 pounds last time he was weighed at just over three months.  I've been taking him to be weighed every four weeks as he's always steadily put on weight so it hasn't been too much of an issue.

Routine: His routine is basically centred around sleeping and feeding with play sessions in between. We've started some baby classes now and often go for walks or shopping as he does get bored of being in the house. We're also starting swimming in September.

Sleeping: Sleep has changed dramatically over the past few weeks and James will not just fall asleep like he did at 2 or 3 months, I now need to put him down for naps or he'll be up for hours and start shouting and getting generally quite moody. Our average day looks like this:
6am - Wake up
7-7.30 - Down for a nap
8.30 - Wake up
10-10.30 - Nap
11.-11.30 - Wake up
12-2 - Down for a nap (Sometimes he'll sleep for a while, sometimes only 20 minutes)
3-5 - I try to put him down for a nap but he often fights it
5.30-6 - Bath, feed and down for the night
2am - Wake for a feed, then straight back to sleep
I had to work quite hard to get him into a bedtime routine and we've spent the past few weeks sleep training. Sometimes it will take an hour of patting, sshing, a dummy and rocking. Also, I always make sure to put him down sleepy but not asleep, or else he'll wake up crying 20-30 minutes later.

Eating/Feeding: In the day he eats about every three hours, sometimes two. He's really quick at feeding and breastfeeding is so lovely and relaxing now. I never thought I'd get to this place, but I hope to breastfeed to a year.

Sizes: He's generally in 3-6 month clothing, but can fit some 0-3. And, he's in size 3 Pampers.

Milestones: He smiles all the time, giggles, loves his playmat, can roll over from tummy to back and back to tummy, can move himself around by shuffling on his head and stomach, fully supports his head and if given support can sit quite well. He grabs everything now and is rarely seen for five minutes without his hands in his mouth!

Me: I was back down to my original weight at about 10-12 weeks postpartum. I did have to add in quite a lot of walking and exercising plus healthy eating, but breastfeeding definitely helped. It does make your appetite much larger though, so you do have to be strict with yourself. The main part of my body I'm concerned about is my boobs and I've been trying to do some toning exercises to help strengthen the muscles so (fingers crossed) they're not too deflated once I quit breastfeeding. I also have had to leave my belly button ring out and it has now pretty much closed up. It actually kept unscrewing and I was really worried James might pick it up and choke on the ball, so I thought better safe than sorry!
