Little black dress

An item I am always on the hunt for is the perfect black dress...even though my wardrobe is already full of them!

But they're one of the easiest items of clothing to wear, and I say this because:

1) Black goes with almost anything.

2) They need very little thought when it comes to accessorizing - a nice chic necklace and you're good to go!

3) And, you can re-use...now this may sound a tad stupid, but put on a different jacket or some statement jewellery and the same dress can appear shiny and new!

This particular dress is from BooHoo, who I have to admit kindly gave me a £50 voucher at their Autumn/Winter event a couple of weeks back. However, I did spend an extra £50 of my own dosh and have even gone back and bought this dress in both white and mocha - I know, I'm ridiculous.

But the shape of this dress is so flattering, the material feels soft against your skin and the best bit is, it only cost £15, which is an absolute bargain!

I also tried out another 'statement nail effect' today using Barry M's Mint Green and then OPI Glittzerland on my ring finger! I'm not that keen on Mint Green - it's a bit flat and boring! I think I want my nail polish to have some dazzle to it, especially with Autumn round the corner.

Have you found the perfect little black dress? And, what are your favourite Autumn nail polishes?

Most Used: Lipstick

More often than not I prefer to go for nude or paler pink lipsticks, partly because I've got quite pale skin and partly because I feel these types of shades make my lips look bigger!

So it will come as no surprise that my most used lipsticks are made up of six light nudes/pinks and one medium toned pink.

Simple with a twist!

I popped into Topshop a few days ago - with some birthday gift cards in hand - and was very proud of myself when I only walked out with two items...one of which was the grey jumper pictured below.
It's the perfect jumper for the UK's August weather, as it's loose enough to let you breath but warm enough for those chilly days which seem to be upon us more and more!

Grey jumper - Topshop

Black ribbed tank top/vest - Topshop

Shorts - Topshop

Necklace - Primark

Seen as my outfit was so plain I decided to pair it with my very neglected Costa Chic lipstick by MAC. I'm not usually one for brighter colours, mainly because my lips aren't that big and I find the paler the lipstick the bigger they look. I also tried out the whole 'accent nail trend' last night, which I think looks pretty cool, although I keep thinking I've bruised my finger when I see it in my peripheral vision!

Nails - Barry M Pink Flamingo and OPI Designer Series mini (not sure of name - came in Julys Glossybox)

Face - Revlon Photoready foundation in 02 and 03 (gives a nice neutral shade), Rimmel Silky Loose Powder, Collection 2000 Shimmering Glow in No.5, Sleek Blush in Rose Gold

Eyes - MAC Paint pot in Bare Study, MAC Retrospeck over eyelid, MAC Caviar Dreams in crease, L'oreal Super Liner in Carbon Gloss, Maybelline False Lash Effect mascara

Lips - MAC Costa Chic and MAC

Most Used: Blushes

I'm usually quite fickle and something I love one week will be forgotten about the next (a prime example is TV shows..the other day I was obsessed with TOWIE now it's Made in Chelsea)! But when it comes to makeup I get myself stuck in a rut for months and will continuously use the same bunch of products

Hence the reason I'm beginning a 'Most Used' series! And, as you can obviously see, I'm starting with blush!

This series isn't going to go into any depth but merely let you know what products I think are fab. However, I will write next to each product what the finish is like, because photos can sometimes be deceiving!

Maybelline Dream Mousse blush in 01 Dolly Pink (Dries to a matte finish) and Topshop Cream blush in Neon Rose (Dries to a matte finish)

Sleek blush in Pixie Pink (Matte with very minimal amounts of glitter) and Benefit's Bella Bamba (Shimmery finish)

Elf's Studio Blush in Candid Coral (Shimmery finish) and Fuchsia Fusion (Shimmery finish)

Maybelline Dream Mousse blush in Dolly pink, Topshop Cream Blush in Neon Rose, Sleek blush in Pixie Pink, Benefit's Bella Bamba, Elf Studio blush in Candid Coral and Fuchsia Fusion

What are your favourite and most used blushes?

The denim gilet!

A staple to any 'rocker wardrobe' - the denim gilet 'rocks-out' a plain outfit so easily! Pair it with black jeans, a plain tee and some rocking jewellery and you're all set to go.

Wearing it last Friday to a friend's birthday, I teamed it with a Guns n' Roses tank top and black ripped lacey jeans from Boohoo.

I bought the jeans a few weeks ago after searching for months for a pair of ripped jeans. They're really stretchy and fit perfectly to size, but I'm not sure that they'd still be available now. I'd love to be able to rip my jeans myself, but after trying it out on an old pair and making them look disastrous, I definitely have to buy pre-shredded!

Denim gilet - River Island

Guns n' Roses tank top - Amplified Vintage

Lacey ripped jeans - Boohoo

Skull necklace - Alchemy (Sorry for no close-up shot)

Boohoo Autumn/Winter collection!

Last Wednesday I was lucky enough to be able to attend Boohoo's PR day for their Autumn/Winter 2011 collection. It was probably one of the most nerve-wracking things I have done in a long while, but at the same time was an absolutely amazing experience.

The main collections shown were grunge and 70's influenced which perfectly reflects what we've seen on the catwalks. Of course, as soon as I walked in and spotted all of the grungy, leather clothing I was ecstatic. Before the event I'd only ever purchased a few pieces off of the website, but I can see myself buying lots from Boohoo over the next couple of months - the prices are phenomenally inexpensive and the quality is fantastic.

Because the event was the first I'd ever been to I wasn't very good at taking photographs. To be honest, trying to manage carrying a bag, cardigan and goody bag while pointing a camera proved too hard for me and I just gave up in the end. So instead I'm going to include some pictures off the website, and links to some of my favourite items that have been sitting in my shopping basket since the event!

Poorly pooch

Grey vest - River Island

Shirt - Topshop
Jeans - River Island

Bracelets - Asos

Necklace - Primark

Pumps (Converse style) - New Look

Let me start by introducing you to Pipi (the little white fluff-ball photographed above). If you've read my blog before you will already know that she's been a bit poorly recently and has had a couple of seizures which are really upsetting for anyone witnessing them. We took her to a specialist a few weeks ago where she had a number of tests including a brain scan and they concluded that it might be epilepsy or a 'one-off'! But yesterday she had two seizures within the space of 12 hours, so we're getting a little worried, because we've heard that too many can cause problems within her brain. If you've had a dog that has seizures I'd really appreciate any advice you could give me. At the moment we're yo-yoing back and forth as to whether we should put her on medication to control the seizures.

Anyway, on a lighter note, I love these River Island jeans. I bought them about 8 years ago and no other pair compares to them. They fit perfectly, make me look slimmer and (comparing the cost to the amount they've been worn) are amazing value for money! Where are your favourite jeans from? Do you think high street can be just as good as higher end brands?

Trying to make it grungy

Grungy black top - Motel

Blue tank top - River Island

Denim shorts - H&M (bought in-store in June, may still be available)

Necklace - Primark

Nail polish - (from light to dark) OPI Heart Throb, Barry M Strawberry Ice Cream, Barry M Bright Pink, Barry M Pink Flamingo and Barry M Neon Pink.

Bracelets - Asos, Forever 21 and a boutique in Lindos, Rhodes.

It's 6:40 in the morning right now - I feel shattered and my eyes feel heavy - but I promised myself I would try to get a post up everyday! It's proving hard to blog while working full time and I'm so amazed by girls who manage it and especially those who make YouTube videos on top of that.

I wore this outfit to work yesterday, and as I'm working with kids I usually need to wear clothing I don't mind getting covered in paint, mud, etc. so I can't wear my most fancy outfits during the week. I've linked two of the items that are currently still available and I thought I'd continue to do that from now on to make it easier for you to find items.

I'm gonna head off now to make breakfast. Have a lovely day everyone!

Dee-Liteful?

I have come to the realisation that the products in Lush are like marmite, you either love them or you hate them!

I'd been wanting to buy Vanilla Dee-Lite Body lotion for ages, I loved the smell and texture of the product when I tested it in-store, but for one reason or another always found something else I wanted more.

But the other week I decided that I wanted to buy a lotion that was more natural, because I've been getting itchy eczema patches on my arms, so when I popped in to Lush I opted for Vanilla Dee-Lite.

I applied it the next day all over my body, and I can honestly say I've never felt so sick in my whole life. The smell, for some reason, was so overpowering and sickening to me that within half an hour of putting it on I had to shower it off.

I also had trouble getting on with the smell of Charity Pot, which I got a sample of back in December. After testing a bit on my hand I immediately had to scrub at the patch to remove all traces of the smell.

It's always said that your own body chemistry plays a part in how a lotion or perfume will smell on your skin and these definitely don't work for me. I think buttery smells (which both of these seem to have) are not my cup of tea and don't sit right on my skin!

Have you tried Vanilla Dee-Lite? If not, have you bought anything at Lush that you didn't fancy the smell of?

Stroppy English weather

Shirt - La Redoute

Skull tank top - Asos

Shorts - Topshop

Tights - Tesco F&F

Bracelets - Asos, Forever 21(1,2) and H&M

I bought this shirt from La Redoute a little while ago (the link to the shirt is listed above), but I actually found it through Amazon.co.uk, which FYI is fantastic for clothing and accessories! It's quite warm for summer as it's made of a slightly thicker material, so I like to wear it with a vest underneath so I can strip off if needs be. To be honest it's perfect for the stroppy English weather, as one second it's absolutely freezing and then suddenly the clouds blow away, the sun comes out and you're frying.

Hope you've all had a fantastic weekend!

The daddy of makeup removers

For months now I have been using a makeup remover that is not only so gentle that it causes no discomfort to the eyes, but is also so effective that it removes eye makeup in one swipe.

It may come as no surprise to you that the said product is Bioderma Crealine H2O, which has been profusely talked and raved about by beauty bloggers and YouTubers!

While most makeup removers I've used in the past have been either too oily or too harsh, Bioderma Crealine H2O feels almost as pure as water, leaving no oily residue or dryness to the skin.

The only downsides to this product are that at this moment it is not available in the UK and I believe it is also quite difficult to find in the US, meaning online stores such as EBay are the only way to go. It is also slightly more expensive than other makeup removers - I payed about £15 for it (with shipping free) - however, it is a large bottle at 500ml and a little goes a long way. And the last (albeit strange) downside is that it tastes very bitter...and no I don't go around taste testing my skincare products...but when using this to take off any foundation around your mouth you can taste a bitter, face scrunching flavour if you lick your lips. For this reason, I always wash my face after using it or at least use a face wipe!

But none of these downsides detract from the fact that it is the best product I've ever used for removing makeup!

What is your holy grail makeup remover? Have you tried Bioderma Crealine H2O?

In turmoil!

'Easy' tee - Asos

Shorts - Topshop

Belt - Aveneged Sevenfold buckle from Camden market

Boots - New Look

Cross necklace - Asos

Bracelets - Asos, boutique in Rhodes and Sonisphere wristband

Nail polish - Barry M Red

I'm having slight writers block today and have been sat staring at this blog post for ages thinking of what I want to say...so far I've come up with nothing. I think the events of this week, with all the chaos we've had across the country, has just left me feeling angry and full of so many thoughts regarding the matter that I can't focus on much else. So I'm just gonna say that I am upset and shocked that so many people across Britain could commit the crimes that have occurred this week and I think not only the government, but also communities and families across the country need to look at why this has happened and how we can sort the problem out. I hope you're all OK and have not got caught up in any of the trouble.

Stripes and spikes

Stripey top - Primark

Black shorts - Topshop

Tights - Tesco's F&F

Jewellery - Forever 21

I adore this long sleeve top (that was a steal at just £3), in fact I love it so much I headed back over to Primark last weekend in the hope of picking up a few more in different colours. But to my dismay they only had t-shirts, tank tops and strappy vests which is strange because the autumn/winter clothes are in store so you'd think they'd be selling slightly warmer tees!

Anyway, I'm back working pretty much full time now, so I may not post as often as I'd like but I'm trying to prepare posts on the weekend and have got some scheduled to go up during the week.

Hope you're all having a lovely week

Katey
